Cost Saving Tips from a Wedding Planning Pro

Step one is done. You have found the person of your dreams and now it is time to start the planning process. You have set your budget and you now realize that it may be a tight one. But how do you keep to your budget without sacrificing too much of your dream?

In speaking with Jennifer Fox, owner of Perfect Planning Weddings & Events, I was given some cost-saving tips to share with those in the process of planning their big day.

  • Consider a date in off-season. Choosing a date that is not a Saturday between June and September can save you a big chunk on your venue.
  • Narrow down your guest list. On average, each guest is between 200 and 400 dollars. Keep it down to just close family and friends. This leaves more of your budget to spend on service staff and/or food quality making a better guest experience.
  • Use 8 foot long rather than round tables. With place settings down, round tables leave more empty space to be filled up with décor. A rectangular table leaves much less space, requiring less décor, yet looks plentiful and seats the same amount.
  • Decide against a signature cocktail. While a signature cocktail may be a cute idea to show off the couple’s favorite drink, this is not cost effective. Most people prefer to drink a beer, wine, or a gin and tonic over an extravagant cocktail. Having a basic open bar saves money and keeps guests just as happy.
  • Choose to serve a plated meal rather than a buffet. Serving a plated meal allows portion control. In a buffet, people take more than they will actually eat and more food means more money. Though a plated meal requires more staffing, your money is better spent on guest experience than wasted food.

Happy Planning!
