Eric and Heather Newland are the incredibly talented team behind Hybrid Moon Wedding Films, a nationally award winning creative multimedia studio located in Portland. Eric, who met Heather in college while studying communications, initially had his sights set on photography, a passion that quickly evolved into videography. After discovering demand for videography in the wedding industry and noticing a hole in the specific market Eric decided to put his skills to use and capitalize on the opportunity.
After only chatting with Eric for a few minutes, his passion for videography became incredibly clear. He describes himself as a storyteller, as his main goal is creating a wedding video that thoroughly captures the excitement and emotions of the event and allows his clients to look back decades later and experience their wedding day through his video. He notes, ‘Brides look back at their wedding video and almost always see things they were too busy to notice during the day.’
When asked what makes Hybrid Moon Wedding Films different from the competition he describes the effortless dynamic he has formed with his wife and business partner Heather over the years. He insists their mutual honesty keeps everything in check and on track, resulting in exceptionally well-made videos. Patience and subtlety are also key to creating that priceless emotional effect that Hybrid Moon Wedding Films is so good at. While videography skills are essential to competing in this industry, Eric points out the importance of keeping up with the ever-evolving technology. ‘You have to be on top of it all, audio recorders, microphones, editing programs, blue ray and the list goes on.’ He admits these investments aren’t cheap, but they are fundamental when it comes to providing his clients with ultimately the very best product.
Hybrid Moon Wedding Films’ work has been recognized nationally, but Eric is most proud when he works with a family in its entirety. He feels a sense of trust when asked to film every siblings wedding and gains referrals from there. As for the future, Eric and Heather are working on expanding Hybrid Moon Wedding Film’s further into the Northwest and are looking to grow beyond the Portland area.
